A Scholarly Discussion on Claude McKay in Tangier
On Tuesday, November 28, our Linguistic, Literary, Cultural and Interdisciplinary Studies Research Lab, in partnership with the Tangier American Legation, was honored to host a distinguished lecture and discussion on the life and work of Claude McKay. The event, titled “Claude McKay: A Harlem Renaissance Author in Tangier,” featured esteemed scholars Dr. Gary Holcomb of Ohio University, who also serves as President of the Claude McKay Society, and Dr. Brooks Hefner of James Madison University. The speakers provided a scholarly preview of their upcoming Yale University Press book, Claude McKay: the Letters in Exile, offering attendees a rare glimpse into McKay’s correspondence and his significant time in Tangier. The discussion illuminated the cross-cultural currents that shaped the work of this pivotal Harlem Renaissance figure, sparking a rich intellectual exchange among faculty, students, and guests.
