Digital Humanities Workshops with Professor Matthew N. Hannah
The Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences at Abdelmalek Essaadi University hosted a week-long series of Digital Humanities Workshops from March 21 to 25, 2022, organized in collaboration with the Department of English Language and Literature and the Doctoral Program in New Trends in Linguistic, Literary and Cultural Studies.
The workshops were led by Dr. Matthew N. Hannah, professor of Digital Studies in the Department of Communication Arts and the Director of the Digital Scholarship Hub in Memorial Library at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Over five intensive sessions, participants explored a wide range of tools and concepts essential to digital research in the humanities.
The program covered key topics such as:
- Data in the Humanities and data cleaning with OpenRefine
- Text analysis using AntConc and Voyant Tools
- Digital storytelling with StoryMaps
- Data visualization with Tableau
- Bibliographic management and network analysis through Zotero, VosViewer, and Cytoscape
- Social media scraping and digital archiving with Omeka
This initiative provided an invaluable opportunity for students and researchers to acquire practical digital skills and to reflect on how technology continues to reshape the ways we study language, literature, and culture.
