As part of its ongoing commitment to promoting literary and cultural dialogue, the Laboratory for Research in Linguistic, Literary, Cultural, and Multidisciplinary Studies joined the American Language Center Tangier and the Tangier American Legation in hosting a fascinating talk in March 2024, featuring translators Alice Guthrie and Katharine Halls.
The discussion explored the complex journey of modern Arabic literature into English, highlighting the roles of publishers, translators, and literary agents. Guthrie and Halls shared valuable insights into the broader ecosystem that shapes how Arabic works reach Anglophone readers.
Through engaging examples and thoughtful reflections, the speakers demystified the translation process and emphasized the importance of cultural exchange through literature.
