LLCIS Lab Student Presentation at Purdue University in Indiana, United States
LLCIS Lab Student Academic Engagement at Purdue University
As part of his Fulbright Joint Supervision Program, LLCIS Lab student Jawad El Annabi delivered an academic presentation while auditing the undergraduate course “Arabs in American Eyes” at Purdue University.
Under the guidance of his co-supervisor, Dr. Stacy Holden, Jawad was encouraged to move beyond the role of observer and actively contribute to the course, which examines American literary representations of the Arab world. His presentation introduced students to Eric Calderwood’s book, On Earth or in Poems: The Many Lives of al-Andalus, outlining its main arguments and situating them within the broader historical trajectory of American writing on the Arab world.
The presentation further connected these discussions to contemporary developments, notably the joint organization of the FIFA World Cup by Morocco, Portugal, and Spain, prompting reflection on the continued resonance of historical narratives of encounter in present-day geopolitical and cultural imaginaries.
LLCIS Lab commends Jawad El Annabi for this contribution, which reflects the academic exchange and international collaboration at the core of his joint supervision program.
