Recap: Talk and Interactive Session on Literature & Resistance with Author Mhani Alaoui
On Friday, November 15, 2024, the Faculty of Letters and Humanities at Abdelmalek Essaâdi University hosted an inspiring talk and interactive session with acclaimed Moroccan author Mhani Alaoui.
The event brought together PhD candidates, MA students, researchers, and professors for a lively discussion centred on literature as a form of resistance and cultural expression. Drawing from her body of work, including The House on Butterfly Street and Dreams of Maryam Tair, Alaoui explored how storytelling becomes a tool for reclaiming silenced voices and confronting postcolonial realities.
The session fostered meaningful dialogue between the author and participants, offering valuable reflections on the intersections of gender, memory, and political imagination in contemporary Moroccan literature. The exchange left attendees with renewed perspectives on the power of narrative to challenge and transform.
