Recap: The House on Butterfly Street — In a Changing Moroccan Literary Context
On Thursday, November 14, 2024, the Faculty of Letters and Humanities at Abdelmalek Essaâdi University, in collaboration with Centre Culturel Iklyle, hosted a literary talk featuring Moroccan author Mhani Alaoui. The event, titled “The House on Butterfly Street: In a Changing Moroccan Literary Context,” was organized by the Linguistic, Literary, Cultural & Interdisciplinary Studies Research Lab as part of the New Trends in Literary, Linguistic, and Cultural Studies Doctoral Training Program.
Held at Iklyle Cultural Center in Tétouan, the session brought together students, researchers, and faculty for an engaging exploration of Alaoui’s recent novel The House on Butterfly Street. The discussion delved into themes of identity, gender, and social transformation in contemporary Moroccan literature, reflecting on how narrative fiction continues to respond to and reshape Morocco’s evolving cultural landscape.
The event fostered a vibrant dialogue between the author and attendees, offering new insights into the intersections of storytelling, memory, and resistance within the Moroccan literary field.
