LLCIS Lab Student Presents at Gender and Women’s Conference at St Mary’s University, London | Sep 26, 2025
LLCIS Lab is proud to acknowledge the participation of its student, Hakima Choukri, in the Gender and Women’s Conference held in September at St Mary’s University, London. The event brought together scholars from psychology, sociology, literature, and the arts to explore current issues relating to women and gender from diverse academic perspectives.
Hakima Choukri presented a paper titled “Mobilizing Literature for Self-Representation: Emerging Voices in Arab-American Feminism.”
Her contribution examined how literary narratives offer counter-discourses to dominant stereotypes of the Arab-American woman as oppressed or un-American. The presentation traced recurring motifs in literature and Hollywood productions, and highlighted the alternative representations proposed by a new generation of Arab-American women writers.
LLCIS Lab congratulates Hakima for her active engagement and contribution to this important scholarly conversation.
