Recap: On Writing History by Dr. Diana Wylie

On Friday, December 20th, 2024, the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences at Abdelmalek Essaâdi University hosted a stimulating lecture entitled On Writing History, presented by Dr. Diana Wylie, Professor of History Emerita at Boston University. Organized by the Linguistic, Literary, Cultural & Interdisciplinary Studies Research Lab, the event gathered faculty members, doctoral researchers, and students for an engaging reflection on the nature and practice of historical writing.
Dr. Wylie explored the historian’s craft as both an intellectual and ethical endeavor—addressing how archives, memory, and narrative intersect in the construction of history. Drawing on her experience as a historian, she emphasized the importance of empathy, contextualization, and critical inquiry in rethinking how histories are told. The talk encouraged attendees to view history not as a static record of facts but as a living dialogue between past and present, inspiring meaningful discussion among participants.
